NEBRASKA SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION

OFFICIAL MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF CONTROL

 

The Board of Control met in special session on November 28, 2007, via teleconference call, with members present as follows.

                                                  District I        --  Terry Kenealy, York

                                                  District II       --  Dr. Bob Reznicek, Omaha Westside

                                                  District III      --  Jay Bellar, Battle Creek

                                                  District IV      --  Max Kroger, Ord

                                                  District V       --  Dr. Dallas Watkins, Dundy County-Stratton

                                                  District VI      --  Kent Halley, Mitchell

 

Dr. Jim Tenopir, Executive Director; Debra Velder, Associate Director; Rex Schultz, NSAA Legal Counsel; Mike Brockhaus, Sidney High School Activities Director; Jay Ehler, Sidney High School Principal and parents Chuck and Chris Estrada were also in attendance.

 

Chairman Dallas Watkins called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m.

 

The purpose of the hearing was for Sidney High School to seek Board of Control determination on the the domicile change for the legal parents of student Richard Estrada.  Following a presentation of the evidence, those representing the student provided clarifying information and answers to Board members’ questions.  

 

It was moved by Max Kroger, seconded by Jay Bellar, to enter executive session at 12:04 p.m. to discuss evidence regarding verification of a legal domicile change.  Motion Carried, 6-0.  It was moved by Terry Kenealy, seconded by Kent Halley, to exit executive session at 12:48 p.m.  Motion Carried, 6-0.

 

On a motion by Max Kroger, seconded by Bob Reznicek, the Board approved a finding of fact and determination that specified when formal documentation is provided to the Executive Director by either the Board of Education or Superintendent of the Bridgeport Public Schools stating that Mrs. Estrada’s resignation has been accepted and the other Estrada child has transferred to Sidney High School, Richard Estrada would be eligible immediately at Sidney Public Schools.  Motion Carried,

6-0.
