Coaching Certification Steps

 

2.12.2                     Head Coach, Assistant Coach, or Sponsor.  In order to serve as a head or assistant coach or sponsor of any activity sponsored by the NSAA, the individual must possess a valid NE Teaching Certificate or NE Administrative and Supervisory Certificate and have a written contract of employment as a coach or sponsor with the school in which he/she is to perform these duties.

2.12.2.1                Individuals who possess a Provision Trades Certificate and/or Special Services Certificate endorsed in coaching may be employed by a school district as a head or assistant coach in NSAA sponsored activities.

 

Steps to Obtaining a Provisional Trades/Special Services Certificate for Coaching

 

1.               Complete a course in Coaching Principles.  The link for this approved course can be found on the NSAA Coaching Accreditation link.

 

2.               Compete a course in Sport First Aid.  The link for this approved course can be found on the NSAA Coaching Accreditation link.

 

3.               Complete a Human Relations Course at a four-year college.  A list of approved courses can be found on the NSAA Coaching Accreditation link.

 

4.               Request an application for a Special Services Certificate for Coaching from Nebraska Department of Education – http://www.nde.state.ne.us/TCERT/pdfs/application.pdf or (402)471-0739.

 

5.               Submit application and payment to the Nebraska Department of Education with the original certificates indicating completion of the Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid Course as well as a copy of a transcript showing completion of a Human Relations Course.
