After successful completion of the American Sports Education Programs, Coaching Principles and Sport First Aid, you must submit the original certificates to the State Department of Education along with the application and agreement with the school at which you anticipate coaching. At this point, you will be issued a temporary Provisional Trades Certificate to serve as a head or assistant coach of high school level activities in the State of Nebraska. This temporary certificate is good for one year. The temporary certificate may be renewed for one more additional year. To then be issued a Three-year Provisional Trade Certificate for Coaching, within this two year period, you must also complete the Nebraska Statutory Requirements which are:

1. Pass one of the prescribed basic skills competency tests required of teachers and have a score report sent to the Department of Education, Teacher Certification. Registration information for the PPST test can be obtained by phoning 1-800-772-9476 or the CMEE test 1-800-627-0225.

2. Successfully complete a human relations training class required of all Nebraska Teachers and have the official transcript (not a grade report) sent to the Teacher Certification Office. A list of approved courses appears on the reverse side of this information.

3. Successfully complete a three semester hour course in a four year college which trains teachers on special education (this should be a survey course covering all handicapping conditions).

Note: Steps 2 and 3 may be completed through Correspondence Course, however, prior to registering, contact the Nebraska State Department of Education Teacher Certification Office for course approval.

The full Provisional Trade Certificate will be issued for three years and is renewable if you are employed as a coach by a Nebraska high school.

All questions regarding applications forms, agreement forms and certification shall be directed to:
