| The section/paragraph/sentence that needs to be added/deleted/changed would read as follows: Class A - There will be 4 Class A district meets.
1a. The winners of the first 3 places in each individual running event will qualify for the state meet, plus the four fastest times of the non-qualifiers. There shall be a maximum of 16 qualifiers. If there is a tie for the last qualifying spot, none of those tied shall qualify.
1b. The winners of the first 3 places in the relay events qualify for the state meet. Plus the four fastest times of the non-qualifiers, regardless of place, with a maximum of 16 relay teams qualifying. If there is a tie for the last qualifying spot, none of those tied shall qualify.
Class B: there will be 6 Class B district meets
2a. The winners of the first 3 places in each individual running event will qualify for the state meet, plus the 6 fastest times of the non-qualifiers. There shall be a maximum of 24 qualifiers. If there is a tie for the last qualifying spot, none of those ties shall qualify.
| Cost Analysis of Proposal: $0.00 | Rationale for the proposed change: Currently in Class A and B, there are no "additional qualifiers" in the running/relay events. Additional qualifiers are allowed in the field events (due to their District performances reaching a set NSAA standard) but performance does not necessarily dictate qualifying for the State Meet in the running events. Instead, District ASSIGNMENT may jeopardize an athlete's chances of qualifying for State in the RUNNING EVENTS..
Example: An athlete places 5th in his/her running event at the District Meet AND is one of the fastest times in the State but does not qualify due to current qualifying procedures.
Due to Electronic Timing (FAT) at the Class A and B District Meets, it is now possible to compare all district times and qualify the fastest athletes to the State Meet. This will allow individual athletes to remain in their "given" events and not "change" at the last minute because they are fearful they will not qualify for State (because their given event has 5 State Ranked competitors in it.)
Additionally, because Nebraska does not qualify athletes to the State Meet using performances throughout the season, it is critical to acknowledge quality performances at the District Meet and not allow District Assignments to hamper the intended goal of qualifying the fastest individuals/teams to the State Meet. |
